How is Sub (Gen 3) different from the previous generations?
Sub (Gen 3) features a new finish, join button, and more powerful CPU.
Which Sonos products can be paired with Sub?
Sub can only be paired with any amplified, non-portable Sonos products, including soundbars, amplifiers, and speakers. Sub will not pair with Move, Roam, Port, or Connect.
Can I connect Sub to a third-party soundbar, wireless speaker, or Bluetooth speaker?
Sub will only connect to another Sonos product.
Do I have to plug in Sub?
Yes. Sub connects to your Sonos speaker or soundbar over WiFi but still requires AC power.
Do I need to set up Sub at the same time as my soundbar or speaker?
No. The Sonos system is designed for modularity. You can add Sub any time.
Can I hardwire Sub to my soundbar or speaker?
Sub will only connect to your Sonos system over WiFi.
Can I use Sub with my passive or wired speakers?
If you power your speakers with Amp, you will be able to add Sub as part of your Sonos system.
Is a subwoofer required to create a 5.1 surround sound system?
Yes. The subwoofer is the “.1” element of the 5.1 system that takes over all low frequency sounds.
Does laying Sub on its side affect the sound quality?
Lower frequencies are omnidirectional, which means the direction or orientation of Sub does not significantly affect the sound. Placing Sub in a very confined space, however, could affect the dispersion and therefore the listening experience.
If I have Sonos speakers in various rooms, will placing Sub in the centre of my home improve the bass of my entire system?
No. Sub is designed to enhance bass in a single room that's part of your Sonos system.
Can I have two Subs in the same room?
Yes. Your Sonos home cinema setup can connect up to two Subs as long as one of them is Sub (Gen 3).
Can I use the Sonos S1 Controller app with Sub (Gen 3)?
Sub (Gen 3) requires the latest generation of the Sonos app (Sonos S2).
